There is a delicate balance between state-of-the-art technology and information overload.  Website designers are constantly gauging that balance.  These days, website designers have so many tools and so many options that choices made a month ago can become quickly outdated.

The best web designers understand that it takes a combination of a keen eye for layout and graphics design and the technical skill in manipulating programming codes like HTML to make a good website.

The fine line between bleeding-edge website designers and website designers that create unintended distractions is delicate to say the least.  Things like plug-ins and tempting diversions to new browser windows have some merit but basically divert the user’s attention.  Website designers know that users are searching and browsing for information in the maze that is the internet.

When a website designer promotes opening a new browser window, they are often opening a Pandora’s Box of potential disasters.  Ask yourself how many times have you simply put an end to the uploading and left the original site to never return.  By encouraging the user to open an outside window, the website designer is relinquishing control of the user and basically asking for help in relaying the site’s message.

Many of the browser windows the website designer may be referring hits to may want to capture the user.  To facilitate that goal, the windows do not permit a back link to the originator.  Inadvertently the website designer has sent the user down the road to never-never land with no clear path back to your sponsor.

The best links are hypertext links that merely replaces the current page with new content.  Website designers implement these hypertext links knowing that when the user closes the page, they will return to the site.  As usual, website designers that keep it simple keep the user on the site and that is every website designer’s goal.
