Web Design: Web Page Loading Time

Just because your website is full of cool features, videos, images, and games does not mean it is going to be a successful or popular website. Internet users are looking for more than just a cool site. They are looking for a well-designed website that loads quickly no matter what type of internet connection they have.

Long page load time is one of the main reasons many site visitors close out of web pages. If the pages on your website take a long time to load, longer than 10 or 15 seconds, the likelihood that the visitor is going to quit using your site is high. Nobody wants to sit in front of a blank screen when they are surfing the web. Surfing the web should be quick and easy. Do not let your mistakes in web design be a roadblock for site visitors.

To decrease the amount of page load time you need to decrease the busyness of your site. You can do this by decreasing the kilobytes of each page to about 50 or 60 kilobytes. You can save a lot of kilobyte usage by simply using more HTML in your site.

Pages that load slow or require the site visitor to download a program to view your multimedia are quick ways to make your site visitors leave. This is especially true if your site visitor is coming to your page only to gather information. Users surf the web for information and expect to get that information quickly regardless of internet speed connection.

When you are doing the web design for your site, you should try to design it for internet users that may have a slower internet connection. Not everyone requires fast internet connection so not all are going to spend the extra money to have a fast speed. Just remember, keep your site page kilobytes as low as possible to make site pages faster to load. You will keep more site users this way.
