Web Design etiquette

A good web design for your website should be just as important as the storefront of your business. Businesses should have well manicured lawns, free of clutter and debris, and be easily accessible by all walks of life. The same is true for your website. Make sure that your site is the same.

A great web design does not take precedence over being polite. Just because a physical store is nice, neat, and architecturally beautiful does not mean a customer is going to shop there if they cannot locate management and the clerks are rude. Be sure to provide contact information on your site and be prompt with your emailed responses back.

Try not to allow any part of your site fall into the “annoying” category. Some web design issues that might annoy your site visitors are having an Error 404 File Not Found page, broken links, empty images, hard to read text, slow to load pages, popup windows, and poor navigational tools.

Other web design issues to avoid are inconsistency among the pages of your site, automatically redirecting to another site, building your site to only be viewed by certain browsers and forcing site visitors to download a program to use or view your site. A web design that forces site visitors to adjust their screen resolution and too much text on one page is annoying.

Having to click more than four times to reach the bottom of the page is another annoying web design issue. The above is only a handful of annoying things you can do with the web design of your site. Try to avoid them at all costs.

You can avoid the 404 Error, broken links, etc by continually updating your site and checking your site frequently. Some of the other issues are simply flawed web design ideas and the others are alleviated by never implementing them into your site in the first place.
