Web design for e-shops
Designing an e-store can be challenging, but if you have an open view of today’s online market and know good web design techniques then you can build a successful e-shop.
The first impression is the one that will last to the eyes of your viewers. You need a modern and stylish, yet professional design, which will make users feel safe and able to trust you, so that they can do online business with you.
When you design an e-shop it’s essential to have a user-friendly navigation menu. This could be the key to your success. An easy to navigate menu will encourage customers to browse your products and it increases the chances that they will actually purchase something.
An ideal homepage should have a horizontal or vertical menu with all the main categories of the products you sell. On the main central space, it’s recommended to put your newest products and also it’s good to include a featured section with the best sellers.
In online shops, the only place that should have lots of information is the page of the selected products. Avoid too much textual content in the home page as it will confuse your customers. An e-shop is a shop in its core, not a newspaper. People expect to see pictures of products that are for sale. They should have a simple design, adapted of course to each business’ character. However, when they visit the page of a product they are interested in, offer them as much information as possible, as if they are actually have the product in their hands. It’s also wise to offer a high-quality picture that users can click and zoom in, to get a better optical view of the selected product.
In your attempt to attract new customers, consider offering something special for the new comers. For instance you can offer free shipping for their first order. Make sure though that you can make it obvious in the homepage for new visitors to see.
Keep a good balance of white space so that your products will not appear too “busy”. The principle of “isolation” can work really well if you want to make something stand out. For instance, the new-comers deal can be incorporated by placing a nice small image standing alone on a strategically chosen spot of the website.
