When your visitor starts clicking a link, he/she must be able to recognize in an instant your connecting pages and that is similar with the previous page. If you fail to do so, you will end with one unhappy visitor, and this will result to him/her leaving your site in an instant. Worse case scenario is that you will find them browsing your competitors’ website.

If your web design includes sound or flash based animation (that you used for navigation), both of it must stay consistent all throughout your website (i.e. a viewer can either turn on or off an animation with the use of flash button, that option must be available all throughout your website).

You can also use Cascading Style Sheets or better known as CSS to ensure consistency for your web design. It is possible to achieve the same feel and look for all of your pages when you define a standard style property to be done in another document. So incase you need to change something for just about any reason, then all you have to do is to update one document. The lack of style sheet/s will make you adjust it on a manual mode, and this proves to be tiresome. More often than not, this only results to inconsistency and errors.

Another good way of promoting website consistency is by using templates. This is mainly a document that defines your pages’ structure (i.e. if your header and footer are standard all throughout your web pages, they can easily be attached to your documents body with the help of an automated process). Here is one good web editing software, “Dreamweaver”, they do offer templates function. However, there are other software available online.

Bear in mind that it is important to be consistent with your web design. As this makes your viewers enjoy your site and it makes them to do less thinking. Everybody wants to save their time, every web users wants to find whatever they are searching for in a flash. If you happen to create an inconsistent web design, you surely cannot cater to more impatient web users. Just think about it! Your goal is to get more traffic to your site.
