Is Your Web Design Annoying?

Your website is up and running but it seems that the visitors that find the site are not staying. Is it because your web design is annoying? Let’s look at what you should omit from your web design so that you aren’t annoying your visitors.

1.    Flash Headers – While impressive perhaps on first load, when they follow you throughout the website they can be just downright annoying, because each time a visitor clicks on the website the header restarts becoming very interruptive.

2.    Oversized Font – One pet peeve for many visitors is using huge fonts. This is much like yelling at someone and no one wants to be shouted at.

3.    Background Music – If there’s one thing you take out of your web design this is it. Nothing is more annoying than having surprise music begin to play when your browsing. This is especially true when the entire house is asleep (or should we say was asleep). The only exception is if you sell music or run an online radio station.

4.    Too Small Of Font – Just as oversized font is no good, fonts that are too small are also no good. This is much like a whisper. Think of your font sizes as being like your voice. Too small and you’re whispering too big and you’re yelling.

5.    Popup Windows – Leave popup windows out of your web design. Many tools help to block popup windows but some still sneak through. Don’t use them. If you have a message, you need to convey then put them in your main page text.

You’ve likely visited annoying websites yourself, so you know what we mean when they will send a visitor away very fast. This is just a short list of five key areas that need to be addressed in your web design, but there are plenty more. Think about the things that annoy you on other sites and then ensure you don’t use those techniques on your website.
