The Usefulness of CSS Features to Web Designers and Users
Internal and external CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) have been very powerful tools for web authors for quite some time. They have tremendously increased the scope of creativity in the way web pages are designed. With time, style sheets have changed wile at the same time maintaining a central position in web design.
When used well, style sheets have the power to change the way information is presented on a website. Earlier websites were very tiring and sometimes boring to use since information was only presented using HTML tags. There were few effects and even fewer features. Background images would easily render the page completely unreadable.
Style sheets enable the web author decide on using many different images. The number of sheet style colors may be as many as those that can be supported by a 24-bit color system. Lower color ranges can be chosen if the system in use cannot support higher color schemes. If the author does not feel any liking for the default styles, he can choose to ignore them altogether.
The reason why the web author no longer has to worry about the styles that have been supplied by he author, he only needs to change one presentational style and the entire website will be changed. If the author decides that he need to change only half of the site, he only needs to change the presentational information in only one place and not the HTML tags of half the pages contained on the website. Another good thing about style sheets is that they reduce the amount of time needed to make downloads since only one file contains all the information about the entire website.
The amount of flexibility that is enjoyed in websites which have been created with the use of style sheets is much higher. One can change color, background and margins by just making presentational manipulations on one page. In the traditional HTML presentational practice, there are fewer elements to choose from. With the use of style sheets, text can easily be emphasized and an even higher level of flexibility can be applied to paragraphs and margins.
When making suggestions for a margin, the entire text does not have to be put in a table. You don’t even have to conduct many find and replace tasks. In case the author wants to change the indent in all paragraphs in a website, all he needs to do is change the size of one line in a style sheet.
The influence that style sheets have had on internet users can easily be understand if the ease with which the content is understood by everyone is taken into consideration. In other words, web designers can change the format of the web page without leaving the information difficult for lay men to understand.
In the past several years, web design has come a very long way. The use of standby tables is no longer an accepted model. In other words, browsers are not reading tables any more. The way forward is the use of cascading style sheets if websites which were designed using HTML platforms some years ago are to remain relevant in the future.
