Understanding the Extensible Hypertext Markup Language

For every specific field of study, it is vital to tackle with the essentials of each topic and advance further with the right knowledge and training. This article will provide you with the basic equipment for learning the underlying concept of XHTML.

* What is XHTML?
XHTML is a markup language that contains the same expressions as HTML, but it also conforms to XML, or Extensible Markup Language, syntax.
XML was designed for data description and HTML was designed to display data. Applying the two concepts led to the formation of XHTML. The product was a stricter and cleaner version of HTML.
It is self-explanatory that XHTML has the capability of being extended. It has the capacity to use extra modules to do things with your pages that weren’t possible before with HTML. The WorldWideWeb Consortium, or W3C, made a recommendation for the purpose that Web pages will be able to be understood by computers as well as humans. If this doesn’t make sense, allow me to explain.

* The Importance of XHTML
It is right to think that computers already understand Web pages because you use a computer to view them. But computers have limitations and can only understand how to display your pages, not what they mean. If computers understood what they meant, you could tell your computer to browse and visit all of your local shopping Web sites and tell you which one offers the cheapest price for an item. Your computer could visit all the news sites and bring back the most recent headlines that relate to things you are of interest. The possibilities are endless. This is the significance of using XHTML.

* XHTML for the future
As of now, different browser technologies run Internet on computers and some browsers run Internet on mobile phones or other small devices. The latter lacks the resources to interpret a “bad” markup language and needs to be studied on for further development.
Through the integration of HTML and XML and their strengths, we got a markup language that is useful now and in the future – XHTML.
