There is plenty of thought that is usually given to text. That is why most of the action that is carried out in web design revolves around web design. Everything that is posted on any web page is used to complement the content that is presented in form of text. In a few instances, text may also supplement other items such as graphics.

There are several aspects of text that must be considered when building a site. The first and most important one is the font choice. The kind of font that one opts for will communicate different messages about the design and the designer. One may therefore choose a font type depending on what kind of environment they are trying to communicate. In making this choice, the designer is expected to deploy the right tool as it could make the job easier. The font type may be considered as a means of achieving a particular effect.

Font sizes are always under the spotlight as they determine to a large extend how readable text on a web page is. Earlier trends focused on using smaller fonts. It was trendy then. Nowadays the trend is quickly shifting heading to bigger and more effective font sizes. Perhaps it is due to the realization that above all other things, text is meant to be read.  Some of the guidelines that should determine font size selection are consistency in selection and proportion. This will avoid a scenario where there is no distinction between headings and sub headings. Size is obviously important as the text must be readable hence going for a sixe that achieves this is important.

Spacing is another consideration when handling typography in web design. In this context, space is considered virtually from the perspective of how much of it exist between words as well as from one line to another. Furthermore must remember to apportion adequate amounts of space between text and other graphic content on the web. How much space one leaves between letters is not very essential as a consideration where web pages are concerned.

How long the lines are supposed to be must be put in mind when planning the site’s typography. There is no rule guiding line length. However, it is up to the designer to ensure that text lines are not necessarily long. Using longer lines makes reading the text a harder task than it should be. When choosing line length, small lines should be preferred as the efficiency is enhanced when reading. Web designers might want top take a cue from newspaper line length settings.

One of the final considerations in typography during web design is the paragraph. Many times, one may scratch their heads on what would be considered the ideal paragraph. This is looked not only in terms of length but also in view of ho many ideas are being presented therein. Paragraph formatting is another food for thought that designer will encounter. Designers may want to use different paragraph alignments. The left aligned paragraphs should be the first choice unless special formatting effects are required in view of the way in which other content could be positioned on the web page.
