Tips for successful web design

So you want to take your business online and you want to start selling your products. In order for you to give your online customers a pleasant experience in order to visit your site again, there a few things that you should consider while building your site.

Web design is not only about fancy images, cool flash animations, and in general graphics that would impress the user. Surely they do play an important role in the online world; however, there are many cases that those elements come in contrast with usability and functionality.

When you have an online business, even if that’s an athletics e-shop in Colorado or an e-magazine in New York, it’s not going to be a successful one, now matter how cool graphics you have placed in it, if you don’t offer a user friendly and easy to browse design.

Here are a few tips that will help you built a successful website. First of all, don’t exclude anyone from your prosper target group. That said always keep in mind of people with slow connections, old computers -meaning low resolution- and eye-sight disabilities.

Make sure that your graphics are both eye catchy but also fast to load. We are not suggesting compromising the looks of your graphics just for the sake of bandwidth. However, you can have nice looking images and save them in such a format that will not take much time to load.

Also ensure, that you offer your online users an easy to navigate menu. Keep your categories organized and offer a logical way to browse within your website. And don’t forget to always make it easy to understand where they are, so that they can easily go back and forth without getting the feeling of being lost. Make them feel safe by keeping steady the main navigation menu in every website and make the specific category they are visiting, to stand out so that they can identify their position.

When it comes to font selection, small sans-serif fonts are considered clean, professional and elegant. Nevertheless, having too small font might keep away those readers that can’t see very well. What if you lose a customer simply because he or she isn’t able to read properly your site? To avoid that, you can have a function that will increase the size of the font in your website, or you can use by default a font size of 12px.

Your web design can have nice and fancy graphics, but make sure that this isn’t your only purpose of your website. Your site should provide your users with certain services, may that be online purchasing or online information, and a web design with only cool graphics but not valuable content will not keep them interested. So follow the middle way, by creating cool graphics and also offering usability to your users.
