Test How Your Website Looks To Others
Website designers are responsible for delivering information to Internet users in an attractive, accessible fashion. When guaranteeing a website will fill that brief, the site must be tested on various screen resolutions and computers to see how the website will look and function to a variety of users. Web designers can create websites that look excellent on all displays, browsers and operating systems, and even to the color-blind and other visually impaired users. But without the right scripting and design features, sites can look stretched, difficult to read and some content can disappear completely.
To check how your website looks to the potential visitors to your site, there are a few tests you can do from your own computer:
Browsers
All the major web browsers are free to download and quite easy to uninstall after you’ve done your test. Internet Explorer, Firefox and the newly launched Google Chrome are the most commonly used web browsers and it is essential that your site looks its best when viewed with these three. If you want to investigate further, check it out with Safari, Opera and Netscape.
Screen Resolution
You mat not be able to test how your website works on many different monitors sizes, but you can test the different screen resolutions. Both Mac OS and Windows have screen resolution options that are easy to adjust. Look at how your website looks in the following, most common resolutions:
640 x 480
800 x 600
1024 x 768
Be sure to remember which one your monitor looks best at, and switch it back when you’re done!
Color Tests
There are many free tests available online that will show how your website looks to the color blind, including examples for red-green and blue-yellow color blindness. You may be surprised to find how difficult it is to read black text on certain colored backgrounds and how your company logo looks.
