ONE SIMPLE WEB DESIGN RULE

In the web design world, there are designers and developers who are eager to proclaim to the world how good they are at their modern craft, at any cost. This bunch of high-tech artists may have had a hand in influencing the development of Internet technology to what it is now.
When the Internet (WorldWideWeb)was in its infancy, the web pages that people saw on their computer screens were designed with the help of the plain, unadulterated HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) as originally envisioned by its creator Tim Berners-Lee.
It did not take long for web design and web development professionals to clamor for more power-packed web pages. They wanted a web page that is interactive. So scripting languages were born, the most notable of which during the early days were JavaScript and PERL. The purity of HTML was violated after scripting tags were allowed to become part of a web page document.
Still web design and development people, as well as some users, wanted more. They wanted better page layout and typography. So they got CSS (cascading style sheets).
In a span of a few short years, the world got innovations that challenged web server hardware and software capabilities, not to mention client browsers.
Now the Internet is bombarded with all sorts of acronyms and software names: DHTML, XML, XHTML, VBScript, Java, ASP, JSP, PHP, Flash… The list is seemingly endless.
There appears to be no contentment over what has become of the Web. Even with powerful technologies already available, many web design and development people still have the tendency to stretch Internet capability to the limit.
So, everyone is now called upon to abide by one simple web design rule: to have knowledge of and respect for constraints of the Web and the Internet.
Although a website looks good on the surface, its presence is undesirable if, for instance, it has been designed with a particular browser in mind and can hardly find usability in others; it is equally undesirable if it has multimedia capability that monopolizes Internet bandwidth.
What is desired instead is web design that is friendly to the Internet user, is truly informational, and is compliant with official standards.
