Simple Site Designs – Why They Are a Good Idea
Web design has become somewhat of an art form, and certainly big business over the last few years. There are more software packages, tools, and yes, web designers out there than ever before, and it’s become a virtual minefield trying to make the right choices.
That does sound daunting, but there is good news. Simple sites often perform better than expensive, overloaded and overcrowded sites. In addition, simple sites are accessible to just about everyone.
Your first step when designing any site, whether personal or corporate, is to figure out what you want from your visitors. If your site is a personal page, or used to promote a newsletter or similar opt in service, that’s the first thing they should see – an opt in box.
If, on the other hand, you are an affiliate marketer, and your site is advertisement driven, then, you guessed it, advertising should be the first order of business. Once you’ve figured the purpose out, you’re halfway to having a site layout planned!
After you’ve figured out the objective of your site, it’s time to choose colors. If you enter the search term “colour scheme generator” into Google, the result is over 200 000 sites, so you’re definitely not on your own when making these decisions! Find one you like, and have some fun playing with possible colour combinations!
Content is key, and is what everyone is looking for on the web – whether it’s information or products, make sure your content has a prominent position, usually close to the top, and in the centre of the page.
The last item that would go on your simple web page is a footer, featuring your chosen colour scheme. Often, these footers contain another navigation bar, contact details, and the name of the web designer, as well as copyright information.
Therefore, a simple page is made up of a few basic elements – a top bar or masthead, two columns, one of around 20% of the page width to house the navigation bar, and the remaining 80% for content, and lastly, a footer.
From that basic template layout, you should be ready to go with setting up your simple yet effective site.
