SEO’s Hocus Focus
Black Hat techniques in SEO are those methods that seek to deceive the search engines. Apparently, these kind of unethical and unfair means do work for a certain time. Usually, the traffic that you gain from using these black hat methods are temporary and used for short gains. And then comes payback time which is usually in the form of being penalized by search engines. The bottom line here is everything depends on the company’s goals. A company who is in a hurry to rise up to the ranks and willing to compromise with the risks involved can resort to Black Hat SEO. The following are some of the traditional black hat methods:
• Search Engine Optimization companies using meta tags only to top search engine rankings are not considered important any longer because some search engines ignore keyword meta tag altogether. Sometimes this is done in the form of disguising keywords and phrases through the use of the same color background, using a tiny font size or simply hiding them within the HTML. Style sheets can be used as an attempt to hide from search engines.
• Use of gateway, doorway or jump pages that contain very little content and stuffed with similar keywords and phrases. This are optimized for particular search engines and only does not work with Google’s preference of doorway pages for the mere purpose of high search engine results.
• Use of computer scripts in cloaking the real pages of your website by sending to a search engine a version of a web page different from what is seen by visitors.
• Identical or duplicate content can be accessed from different URLs.
• Hidden links where visitors cannot see them to increase link popularity.
• Use of keyword spamming or stuffing wherein a word is used repeatedly to increase its frequency on a page. This targeted term phrase can be reflected in your page, meta tags, alt, titles, links and more.
• Link spamming in different forms such as link farms, the use of several websites at different domain names that all link to each other and comment spamming which are being automatically generated for the purpose of collecting backlinks to other websites being promoted.
