Playing with Colors for your Website

In designing your website, it is not necessary to stick to color codes and combinations. It is ok to experiment and to evaluate your creation. After all, you don’t have to publish it immediately. So what are new things you can do if you are just beginning designing your page?

Instead of creating a background with the usual solid color, why not experiment with the tones? You can vary the tone and intensity of the color for the background. Business websites usually employ this type of background coloring. You can employ this technique using Adobe Photoshop. Their Layer Masking techniques and tools can help you create the color style that you want. You can also utilize the Blending options.

You will notice that some websites have bright colored top portion which eventually fades into a different color, or a different tone. Most of the time, the lower portion has a lighter color and intensity than that of the color on top. You can also do vice versa.

You can also use these techniques for certain objects or images that you want to give a “real” feel in your web site. You can also make a combination of layer styles. Layer styles include Stroke, Bevel and Emboss.

Aside from layering and color toning, you can still make use of solid colors. Instead of the usual combinations using the color wheel, you can experiment with various colors. The chocolate brown color is one of the most utilized colors to combine with others. Combining chocolate brown to pale pink, light purple, baby blue and light yellow are some of your options.

Other colors that you cannot go wrong to combine with others are black and white. Although they are not colors in the very essence, they contribute a nice effect. If you want to utilize the black, color, don’t forget to make your texts, logos and titles into light colored fonts, else they won’t be recognizable. White fonts are appropriate.

Sometimes, all it takes to have a nice and expressive web design is to implement new color combinations. Try them first and see the effect. Ask someone to evaluate the combination rather than publishing the page immediately.
