Why Loading Times Matter

Why Loading Times Matter
While users may not notice fast loading times, they will definitely notice a website design that loads slowly. The most important page of your website is the front page, or the first page most users will click to. A quick loading front page will encourage users to stay at your website while a slow one will urge them to click away.
Ideally, all pages should load within seven seconds, regardless of a user’s Internet connection speed. Working with your web designers, you will be able to customize a professional, attractive front page that can load quickly even on a 28.8k p/s Internet connection.
It’s suggested that Flash elements be eliminated from the first page to save on the heavy loading time and used later in the website, at the users’ discretion. If your heart is set on a video or audio introduction page, make it obvious that it is the Flash element that is keeping the website from loading quickly and provide a clear “SKIP” button that users can click before the element even begins to load.
When your website design calls on elements from other sites, the Internet Browser has to retrieve these elements from other servers. This adds time to your loading and relies on the speed of the external servers. To speed things up, ask your web designer to host as many files as possible on your website’s server.
Keep an eye on graphics – they can slow down the loading process. There are often times when fast-loading text and HTML design can be used in place of images; this also adds more web content, and therefore better search engine ratings. Another tip is to re-use the same images throughout your site as most Internet Browsers will cache the image and won’t have to reload it every time it’s displayed.
