THE LIMITATIONS OF HTML IN WEB DESIGN
While HTML or the Hypertext Markup Language is considered to be the Lingua Franca of web design it has its own limitations. You might notice these flaws in web pages using only pure HTML. You might have created or visited a web site that displays only text or even text with static images embedded in them. Unfortunately, netizens of today does not want these kind of designs. Having a static web design would drive away your visitors for one reason or another having boredom as the main reason. Outlined below are some limitations of HTML in web design:
- Limits Interactivity – one main reason why a client or site visitor stays on a web page is because he or she can interact with the web page. This is not achieved by using pure HTML that is the reason why scripting languages for interactivity purposes were developed such as Javascript and Action Script.
- Little or No Server Interactivity – The only time when a pure HTML web page interacts with a server is when an anchor tag is integrated. Other than that HTML cannot actually interact with the web server in terms of displaying time, validating forms and the like.
- Limited Designing Power – with the advent of the W3C or the World Wide Web Consortium standard removing some HTML tags, creates a limitation in the web design capability of HTML. However to compensate for this loss CSS or the Cascading Style Sheet was introduced.
- No Capability of Site Updating – A web page made purely from HTML is limited in terms of site updating as it needs a full revision of the HTML code for the web page to be updated. To solve this problem an integration of a database program such as MSSQL and MySQL and a server side scripting language like PHP or ASP makes web page updating a breeze.
