Laying the Basic Foundation in Dreamweaver
One of the many ways to shortcut the designing of a webpage is through the use of CSS layouts in Dreamweaver. However, before embarking on your plans and get to work coding the site, you should take time to plan on your approach. The choices and plans in the website design stage will have a considerable impact in the website maintainability in the future.
Any design given to a client once returned to a website designer should be properly accepted and signed for approval. By doing so, this will seal the agreement and any future modifications on the design can be easily charged to the client. An attachment of the list of alterations together with the client’s images and text should be included.
Next, is the planning and creation of the prototype for approval and testing before the client. Once this is done and presented, a website designer can ask for a down payment before proceeding to coding the site.
For the takeoff, one must have all the list of the fonts to be used, the color scheme and all the images and text. Now is the appropriate time to determine the file-naming convention to be used for the files and the client’s server. All details and information regarding the website design project should be properly documented and kept in file.
Once all is set, start Dreamweaver and create a local folder for storing the site files. Separate the site images in a different location to the web pages so as to avoid overcrowding the root folder. In developing websites, a test area must be assigned where the client can preview the on-going website design task before finally uploading it to the client’s server. At this point this setup is handy since clients normally do not have a domain name or had engaged the services of a web hosting company yet.
Having configured the site file structure, it is best to create a small test page to check your ability to save, preview and upload it to your site. Only when all of these had been accomplished, you can start working on the site.
