Keeping Things Simple and Light in Web Design
Web design gurus will always preach about keeping things simple and light. We could not help but agree to this mantra. This actually draws the line between a good web design and a bad one.
Let us not be deceived by the idea that the more complicated the website would be the better it would come out. We have seen sites that are overly polluted with graphics and animations to the point that there is difficulty of finding what we really need. There are also sites with too much emphasis on graphics and tables.
In web design, tables should be used sparingly. The loading time of the page will be greatly affected if the page is overpopulated with tables. This is because it is requires so much coding. The more codes found in a page for a browser to interpret, the slower it would be to load.
An alternative to tables is the use of the DIVs structure. This programming structure has less coding involved. Logically, it would make it load faster. Quicker loading pages will always be search engine robots friendly. The faster they can index your page the better is the chance of being found in the World Wide Web.
Web designers should limit the image content on each page. Aside from the fact that it is bandwidth hungry, it will also takes so much time to load. I personally could not wait for more than three minutes for all the pictures to load. To think many people already consider me as a patient person.
In the aspect of search engine optimization again, search engine robots cannot index images. So, what help will that be for your campaign of world domination if the people you wanted to reach could not find your beautiful page?
On the matter of sizes, yes size does matter. In the web design world however, smaller is bigger. No, I am not a minimalist. Smaller pages can bring in more profit that larger ones. Again, the argument is all about loading faster. It is advisable to keep the page sizes to fifty kilobytes.
So, in web designing world, keep everything simple and light.
