When undertaking a web design project there are various issues that one must put in mind. These issues concern users hence affect or may even determine the usability of the site. Being aware of them as one begins as one starts the process may help avert some potential pitfalls. The designer should be wary of making any changes on the size of windows that users could want to use. This is bound to happen when one creates the site and hosts it courtesy of such browsers as Internet Explorer. Unfortunately some of these browsers may hang onto the dimensions used by the designer during the design process. Every time the site is opened after the launch, the same dimension may be replicated. This could be counterproductive and may not augur well with some users who want to be allowed the choice of their own specifications.

Font size has always been an issue since the advent of web design. While the choice of font is likely to affect the quality of display the site may have, the designer needs to be cautious. Fonts that are too big and bold may appear over bearing to some users. On the other hand, if one chooses the font size that is too small, they may inconvenience many potential users to the point of scaring tem away. If a user has to read a long passage typed in small font they may end up straining a lot. The smaller the font one uses in posting the thumb nails and titles on web pages the harder it will be for those navigating the site. Since the designer is aware that some users will have some problems reading a very small font size going for the average option would do better.

The use of graphics and animations is always a welcome break from endless text on a web page. However, if the animations dot every part of the page they may end being viewed as to many for the user’s comfort. In the same vein some users are likely to look as being distractions to them attaining their purpose of visiting the site. The designer will therefore do well to ensure that there s a balance between animations, text and empty on the web page.

The location in which links open is one that every designer must handle with care. There are various options that that could be used. One of them is having them open in anew window while another would see them open in a new tab. Finally one can also have them open in the same window leading to anew page. Having a standard location would appear as presetting the site for users who would rather make that choice by themselves.

Finally, there is no assurance that one will create a perfect site nor can every need be provided for during the design process. This could take the designer years to finish and launch the site. Some issues are best addressed when one is testing the site just before the launch. This is where potential user feedback becomes critical in highlighting possible errors. Even then there is no excuse for he designer not to try and fix these errors.
