In this article I explain the necessity of internet marketing and why web sites would find it hard to do their job without it.

There is an erroneous notion regarding web sites that as soon as one has a web site visitors will start crowding there hence will attract new business instantly. I refute this.

My argument to this is always the same “When one gets a telephone does it start ringing immediately?” Definitely and obviously the telephone is not human and everybody knows what will happen.  A  Site is like anything else, for visitors to have a look at it they have to be informed it exists in the first place.

There are several ways one can use to inform people of the existence of his site. The very first and obvious one is through ones current marketing efforts. Assuming one does not already do this kind of marketing this may include using the following:

• Invoices

• Company Vehicles

• Reciepts

• Media Adverts

• Quotes

• Store Front

• Company Vehicles

Definitely, there are many other methods but this was only to serve as an example. All the above methods represent an opportunity for one to market his Web Site address. One should take every opportunity and let people know his sites address. Once ones Web Site address is in the head of somebody it serves as a doorway for any quantity of information one wishes to provide on his site, more information than one could ever provide using an advert, and it is accessible to that person at his leisure time, when he has the desire and the time to digest it.

The above methods usually are a start to attracting people to ones site. There are usually two problems.

First, these methods may not generally attract business that one  wouldn’t have found  anyway, although ones Site will enhance the communication effiency with customers that will lead to customers who are happier  they are not customers necessarily that wouldn’t have discovered one were it not for the web site.

Second, people’s memory is not as good as that of a computer when it comes to remembering things.  And it is usual that a Web address needs only to have one character wrong for the site not to be found. That is if the person at all remembered the address.

Marketing via internet.

Though internet marketing is a better way, it should not be considered as an alternative to the above methods but rather as a complimentary method to them.

When somebody is looking for a company to provide him a service or a product, people usually turn  to the internet to find it. The search engine is the most popular method of finding services or products on the internet.  When people type the name of a service or a product one provides in to a search engine, then it provides a perfect opportunity for one to get their attention as customers.

Someone is interested in the service or product that his company provides right at that particular moment. He is not in the middle of something else or may be in a frame of mind that he does not want to look at ones advert. He is willing and ready to get more information and possibly he would purchase ones service or product straight away.

Internet Marketing usually involves ensuring that when a person is searching for a service or product someone provides they will find him. This is achieved through cost per click or Search Engine Optimization or even both.
