The web designer must look at all the apace available on the web page and imagine how it could be all filled up. The presence or absence of color will go along way in ensuring that the designer and the general public note the change from one item to another. Color though a powerful difference indicator can also have a negative effect if misused or over used. The use of very strong color for instance while capable of catching the eye, is also quite capable of taking much needed attention way from content or other items on the screen. Therefore, its relevance may end up working against the importance of other screen elements. Web designers must also realize that what they can achieve with color, they can also mange without it. That void is filled by white space which is just as powerful in creating distinction as is color.

White space works positively in many ways. If one were to post content on white space, their clarity will be fully enhanced. At the same time, white space provides the best background for all screen elements. Such space also helps the viewer to feel more at ease hence enjoy their browsing experience. Even then all screen elements must be allowed to contribute towards improving the overall appearance of a web page as well as its effectiveness.
