The history of web design

The internet has become our daily routine, the best way of receiving and sending information, an endless source of knowledge. But we seldom think how the internet became a part of our daily life. This article will give you some ideas about how much work is behind this incredible technology and its endless evolution.

The internet, as means of communication appeared in the early 1980s and it was first available for doctors and businesses and for government agencies. But in 1960s some sort of internet appeared as a way to transfer data between computers using telephone lines. This was a very efficient manner to transfer some important information to scientists and to the ones from the military services.

Tim Berners-Lee is known to have been the one who created the first website in August 1991. But in the late 1980 the internet had already been introduced as means of communication for everyone who had a computer, a modem and a telephone line. Tim burners-Lee was the first who actually combined Internet communication with hypertext.  Of course the websites were written in markup language which is what we call today HTML. This version of HTML had limited graphics and the websites had a very basic structure, but the users were able to navigate from one page to another for the first time. Because modems were very slow, web pages couldn’t load large file sizes, but this was only the beginning of an internet era.

As the web design progressed, the markup language began its development more complex and now the designers had the possibility to add images and tables to the web page. Therefore, the appearance of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) improved the look of the website. With this style sheet language was used to describe and style the presentation of a document written in markup language. But other different technologies replaced the old ones and changes the way a website was made. The endless discoveries regarding the building of a website are changing the code and the visual design and more and more web design companies are now offering their services.
