Consider Your Font Options In Your Web Design

There are many elements to designing a good web design, including fonts. Let’s have a look at some of your options.

You need to remember that a font that looks good in print may not look good on your monitor and visa versa. You are much better off sticking to the more common fonts. That will ensure that they are readable on every monitor.

You also want to have contrast between your background color and your text so that it is easy to read. A white background with black text is always a good choice. It will be crisp, clear, and easy to read no matter what monitor it is displayed on.

Let’s have a look at a few of the best fonts to choose from:

Trebuchet
This font was actually designed for monitor viewing. It’s a blocky stroke but it’s clear and easy to read. It has good height so even in smaller sizes it’s still very legible.

Verdana
This font was also designed for monitor viewing. It is actually the most common of the sans-serif typeface that has become so popular in recent years replacing fonts like Times Roman. It is nicely spaced and has a good height with a little white space around each letter, making it easy to read, and especially legible on a light background.

Helvetica
This is the most widely used font of all, at least by professional web design teams. Some feel that it is overused when other better options are available. The biggest complaint is that the letters sit too close together making it hard to read in smaller font sizes.

Futura
You may not be familiar with this font but if you are going to be working with a small font size, this is certainly one to keep in mind as it is crisp, clean, and very legible even in the tiniest sizes.

Arial
This is the most commonly chosen sans-serif typeface, and while it shows better on the newer monitors it actually did not present that well on some of the older monitors. You can certainly opt for this font but there are betters.

Now that you know of a few good fonts to use in your web design, why not get a little creative?
