The Flip Side of Web Site Templates
There are a number of factors that make the use of web templates an unattractive proposition to several buyers. Complaints regarding these templates may touch on flexibility, functionality as well as the input skills that the user is expected to possess.
The greatest selling point for web site templates is their ready to use feature. Unfortunately, the level at which such templates may be regarded as being ready to use remains baffling. Whereas the buyer will be happy to purchase the template at a lower cost, there could be more cost factors involved. If the user does not have the skills required to develop and some forms of content, they will have no option but to seek the help of professionals in that filed. This will end up eating into their budgets. It could drive the cost of building the site to then level of a custom made web site.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is considered strength for any site that wants to generate revenue on the internet. It may be a requirement that every website be SEO optimized if it has to be effective. This is one area that web site templates lack in. many of them may bear striking picture and other graphic content making appear quite attractive. However, this sharp display will not count in terms of SEO strength as it graphic content does not count when analyzing SEO strength. The client will have to endure the hard work of optimizing the SEO strength of their web site.
Web site templates do not provide tips on how they can be made to load faster once they are operational. The site buyer is left with the task of selecting content and loading it carefully. One has to very keen as what content they put and how they put it could affect the ultimate speed on the site. Unlike custom made web sites where the user is given the appropriate skills to update the site, website template makers don’t allow such luxury to their buyers. One may end up getting stuck as soon as they purchase the template.
Although there is a general assumption that website templates allow customization this may not be entirely true. The user may be allowed to make changes only up to certain points. Beyond there, it will have a negative impact on the outlook of the site. Any more content r text posted beyond what the template provides for will damage it hence rendering it useless. In such a case, one will end up wit web site template that they can not use. Yet there will be hardly any refunds as such are not provide while making the purchase.
Lack of software needed during the customization may also spell doom for the usage of web site templates. Flash, Macromedia Dream weaver or HTL skills knowledge are essential in editing, updating or authoring a web page among other functions. If the buyer is short on these skills they may not mange to successfully run their web site. It is here that one realizes that the excitement of buying a website template may not linger for long once the transaction is over.
