The Effect of New Web Features on Designers
Wondering what makes a website look so good? The next door neighbour might be able to answer that (if ever he’s a computer enthusiast). Take the time to read on and discover it for yourself.
This article presents some of the most popular features used on websites today, and how it affects the people behind it – the web designers.
*Liquid Layouts
There are designers who would like to control the specific width designations of their pages. In HTML, this can be achieved through the use of the older table-based design or the more modern div-based design, usually enhanced with CSS.
Other designers select an approach which arranges the contents on users’ screens flexibly and responding to the size of a chosen browsers’ windows. This is called the liquid approach.
*Flash
A lot of graphic designers use Flash because it gives them precision in controlling every part of the design, and anything can be animated.
Another feature of Flash is its ability to use embedded fonts instead of the standard fonts found on most computers. There are many sites which use Flash more than HTML.
Also, Flash is used for protecting content from unauthorized duplication or searching.
*CSS for layout
Before, the popular solution for web designers to lay out a web page was by using tables. Back then, simple designs for a page required many tables nested in each other.
After the presentation of CSS layouts, they discovered an alternative way of lay outing and table less web design was born.
However, there is a disadvantage on relying to CSS only because each browser has different subsets of CSS rules.
*Form versus Function
Some web designers direct their attention to the page appearance than finding ways in how visitors are going to look for the page using a search engine. Advertising can also help in drawing visitors to the website.
It pays to be concerned with how well your website works technically and textually. A web designer should give time on studying how much traffic it generates via search engines and calculate how much traffic the website can generate. This would generally result in disputes when the designer wants more graphic designs and the SEO wants a lot of keywords for the text
There is a problem when using a lot of graphics on a page. The download time of the page would dramatically increase if there are plenty of animations and digital images on it. This could irritate the user and quickly switch to another site that loads faster. You just lost a potential customer. This has been remedied though, with the help of high-speed Internet and vector graphics.
