Designing to Utilize the Top 5 Pages Visited on Every Optometry Website

By understanding how your visitors act while on your website will allow you to decide what pages you need to focus your primary efforts on.  This should then lead to an increase in converting visitors into patients and current patients into self-service patients.  A recent study found out the top 5 pages that visitors view when on an optometrists website.

1.    Homepage – over 90% of all visitors view this page when the visit
2.    Our Doctors or Biography – 28% of visitors look at this page
3.    Locate Us – 27% of all visitors view this page
4.    Our Services or Practice – 25% of all visitors see this page
5.    Our Team – Only 9% of visitors see this page

This means that your marketing efforts need to try to push people toward your homepage.  The homepage also tends to be your highest ranking page on search engines as well, so the homepages popularity should not be a surprise.

From the homepage people tend to click on one of three pages from the homepage: Biography/Our Doctors, Locate Us, Practice/Services.  Since these pages are so close statistically, your visitor has an almost equal chance of clicking on any of these three pages.  New visitors will probably lean towards the Doctors/Biography page so that they can see who they will be dealing with, whereas a current patient will probably not be focused on these pages.  New visitors will also be interested in the Locate Us section in order to see if your practice is conveniently located.  Current and previous patients will also be interested in this page because they me need a reminder on how to get there.

Visitors also can be interested in your staff because it can give them an idea of how long the waits will be, how will the service be, how many staff are working there etc.  This information will help your potential patients get to know your staff and start to trust you before they even step into your office.

Here are some quick tips to take advantage of this information:

1.    Make sure that you include descriptions of all doctors and staff.  You must include photos as well, so that it has a more personal touch.

2.    Try to include some professional photos of your office as well, so that your patients can get a comfortable feel for your office.

3.    Make sure that each page is formatted well and free of grammar and spelling errors.

You only have one chance to make a good first impression and begin building trust, so take advantage of it.
