*Optimise Your Images.
Website images should be in jpg or gif format and use a web-safe colour palette. The number of colours you use determines the size of your image file. Cut down the number of colours and colour depth and you cut down file size. Successful website designers ensure that all images are small in file size and icons even smaller.

*Minimise the use of Flash and Animated Gifs.
Website design is not about flashing lights and candy. It is about catching and keeping the viewer’s interest. The “bells and whistles” approach will slow your load time considerably and lose visitors.
