Creating a Perfect Style for a Web Site

The personas that are created out of the interaction between the web designer and target audience are necessary when creating an appropriate style for the web site.  The personas are responsible for a better understanding of what the target audience hopes to achieve by suing the site. Furthermore, it will be a clear pointer on how they intend to achieve those goals once the site is up and running.

The style that a web site will adopt is a culmination of a delicate balancing act between various forces. On the one side will be the client who will be funding the construction of the site and its hosting. The client will also be running the site, maintaining it and will be responsible for its overall usage. On the other hand will be a team of users who will hope to use the site to access specific information, products or services. The final angle will be presented by the web designer who may want to impose authority on the project be ensuring that the site takes a certain form.

The style in which a web site ends up also defines the site’s goals. At times, the goals may be at variance with what every part expects it to be. This does not imply that the site will be serving different interests from those that the designer and clients as well as the target audience want it to serve. It is only that the service will come in a format that will be modeled along other factors such as bandwidth speed, content size and download time.

The totality within which a web site is presented and functions will usually be summed up using the term brand. This may be equated to all the goals that the site is set to achieve, the personality that can be deduced from the site through it various features and the overall drive that the site projects. The site Persona is a tool that may be used to gather and analyze information regarding all these factors. Such information is usually synchronized to ensure that the brand as well as the site goals is maintained even as one works through to the conclusion of the site.

For a proper style, the web designer must be willing to interact with both the goals as well as the user personas. The user persona is different from the site persona. While the former represents the totality of all the factors that are involved in developing and maintaining the site, the latter applies only to the functionality of the site once it is fully operational. The site persona is therefore supreme. While the designer may wish to create a style that embraces both the brand and the user persona, a style in which the site person is prominent is acceptable.

The overall style should be reflection of the future interaction between all the factors played out on the site. One can choose to consider the style in terms of how the user persona interacts with the site persona. Since the site personas are multiple and are all aimed at ensuring that users get any information they require, the site persona must remain independent while serving the needs of all these users. It must remain intact in the face of all demands coming from different users even while satisfying them.
