CONTROLLING PRESENTATION
If you are the type of web designer that maintains structure and presentation of web page through Hypertext Mark Up Language well it’s time for you to stop being an HTML purist. The World Wide Web consortium had already declared several presentation elements in HTML such as <font> to be considered as deprecated.
The W3C of course had already thought of the fact that presentation is essential in web design thus, they approved the use of another scripting language that would fortify presentation of the web design, and this is through the use of the Cascading Style Sheets or CSS.
Cascading style sheet provides web developers control of presentation without violating any of the W3C standards which, if violated, could compromise the web designs’ data integrity. So how does Cascading Style Sheet actually work?
Cascading Style Sheet is given the property of overriding the browser’s default settings in order to interpret how the elements are to be displayed. There are three applications of the Cascading Style Sheet. These are:
-
Inline Style sheet – the style is directly applied to an element. Writing of the style code is placed inside the element using the “style” as an attribute.
2. Internal Style sheet – here the style can affect the whole web page meaning it targets all elements in the html page. This style is coded within the same html code most specifically at the head element of the page.
3. External Style sheet – its effects are the same as the internal style sheet but with one difference it the CSS codes are written on a separate file. Such file will have an extension of CSS. But how do we instruct the browser that an external CSS presentation will affect our html web design? This is through the use of the link element which is also placed at the head tag of the html page.
