Color Themes for Business Websites
Business websites always have a distinct look meant to set them apart from others in their field. Microsoft has its blue gradients and the Windows icon, while Apple is all white and gray and splashes of color. It’s this aspect of design that makes people instantly associate color with a website.
Needless to say, the colors you choose for your site can make or break your online business. Here are four business color schemes that have been proven to work—and how you can make them work for your website.
Blue. Most offices use shades of blue because this color is known to increase productivity. But it’s also the same reason people associate blue with a serious, businesslike attitude. Use this color if you want to portray a no-nonsense personality and instantly gain professional trust. Royal and navy blue work best; use a lighter blue for a more casual atmosphere.
Green. Also a “productive” color, green gives you the professional look of blue without the formal undertones. This gives you a good compromise between casual and businesslike, without one overshadowing the other. Green also has more shades than any other color, so it’s easy to customize with your business. Go with a medium dark green for a professional appearance, and an even darker tone for elegance and sophistication.
Neutrals. Black and white are popular business colors, and for good reason. They’re simple and versatile, and they go with any other color in the spectrum. This means you can easily change the look of your site while keeping a consistent theme for your backdrop. Black and white alone can be boring—choose at least one vibrant color to break the monotony and make the site more interesting.
Red. Red is fairly new in business design, but it’s proving very effective. This color evokes power and a go-getter attitude—the very things that people look for in a business. However, red can be overpowering and should be used with care. Rather than use it as a main color, designers usually limit its use to icons, logos, and other minor graphics against a more neutral background.
