How to Choose Foreground and Background Colors in Web Designing

In choosing foreground and background colors in web designing, you need to understand not only the characteristics of colors, but also how these colors get displayed on web browsers.

It is important for web designers to choose foreground and background colors carefully to make sure that the page looks great and, at the same time, looks legible and not painful to look at.

In order to be able to correctly choose foreground and background colors in web designing, it is very important to visualize the colors display.  Contrast is one of the key relationships in color which is crucial enough that will either make or break you website.  If done correctly, it makes you web pages visually appealing and pleasant to read, without straining the user’s eyes.

To determine a good contrast for the foreground and background colors, it is necessary to refer to color charts or tables which show the actual relationships of colors.  Contrast is essential in keeping your visitors glued to your site.  If you use too strongly contrasting colors for your text and background, there is a big possible that your users would get eye strain and click away in a jiffy.

Perhaps an important consideration in choosing foreground and background colors in web designing would be the characteristics of web browsers in handling colors.  Remember that all web browsers are only able to exchange 216 common color palette, and any color beyond that color palette would have to be mixed to approximation by such browser.

To understand how to properly choose foreground and background colors in web designing, you need to understand the concept of dithering.  Dithering allows browsers to display colors which are not in the 216 color palette in approximation.  Since it is just an approximation of the color that’s not in the palette, dithering results to colors which are not solid, as the resulting color would just be a combination of the native colors in the 216 color palette.

Choosing foreground and background colors in web designing is crucial to avoid dithering which sometimes results to some text might appear straining to the eyes.  The moral of the story is to choose colors which are in the 216 color palette to make sure that colors would be browser friendly.
