Taking Care of Users in Web Design
The ultimate aim of every web designer is to come up with a site that is usable. It is felt that how usable a web site is and how efficient it can become are the tow factors that determine how successful a site will eventually turn out to be. The web design process may therefore be about meeting the user’s needs. This need may be satisfied by following a number of processes.
Designing a web site that will satisfy users requires that one thinks about the potential users in all aspects. Their needs become the designers concern which must be reflected by the time the site is ready for use. This calls for the clients to be involved in the design process. The feedback they provide could be essential in ensuring that the final product is viable.
The designer must work overtime to ensure the quality of the outlook of the whole site. There must be consistency in terms of the content posted on the home page and all the other pages. The quality of color and images posted should of high standards. Furthermore, every designer must strive to maintain balance in their utilization of space on every page. No too much or too little space should be used or left out.
The web designer must take on the mindset of a reader who is looking for fast accurate information on the World Wide Web. One realizes that in the haste to find information, the reader will hardly read the information posted on all the potential sources of the required information. Alternatively they only scan through loads of sites looking for their target details. They should therefore aim at an outlook that captures the reader’s attention and keeps it there.
Web designers must also understand that meeting the enormous expectations of users though a tricky affair makes the difference between succeeding and failing in their task. If the website attracts much traffic the client will end up with mega profits. If it is shunned by prospective users, the designer can as well as declares the task as having been unsuccessful.
The kind of architecture provided on the site should make the site easy to navigate. It is only by so doing that the usability of the site will be assured. This calls for search tools that yield the desired results quite fast. Any links posted on the site must lead to the correct addresses while users must have the freedom to get through the various pages with much ease. Such ease also doubles as removing any question marks that users may have about using the site. The principle behind such efficiency is to ensure that users spend more time on the content rather than looking for it.
The kind of writing that the web designer chooses could be the difference between succeeding on the task and failing thereon. Although this may have much to do with the content contributor, the web designer must ensure that it is effective. The content must be accurate while the writing style must also be easy to read. It must also be presented in a simple manner, this will save users time that they may spent looking for meanings of all the technical terms on the site. Simplicity is a key component not only in terms of content but also in the way the site is structured and the pages presented. Since the main aim of designing the site is to pass information, the designer should not lose sight of that goal. All the planning, stages and phases, architecture and navigation tools should work towards making that information easily accessible to users.
