Why Blogs are Content Friendly

Blogs, or weblogs, are becoming more and more popular, both with private individuals, and with companies. The reasons for this are many, but here are a few of the more compelling ones:

Blogs Are Easy To Set Up

If you are considering adding a blog section to your website, or even creating a standalone blog, it is very easy to do. There is no html coding involved, because the blog software creates it for you. It really is a matter of cut and paste. Simple.

Blogs Keep Content Fresh

Blogs are a little like online journals. Bloggers add content to their blogs on a regular, even daily basis. This means that a site that features a blog section is likely to have content that is updated or changed on a regular basis. The result – more crawling by search engine spiders, and a better page rank.

Trackbacks and RSS Feeds

Trackbacks allow other blogs and sites to link to your blog – and makes it more likely that they will, since their link will appear on your blog. Again, this translates into increased page ranking.

The same goes for RSS feeds – it makes it easier for your readers to receive your blog updates regularly, and enables them to click through to content that interests them.

Enabling both of these features on your blog will most likely result in more links, and more traffic, which result in a higher page rank, and, you guessed it, more traffic! It is a self-perpetuating cycle once it gets started, and you will certainly benefit from the effort!

Blogs Are a Familiar Format

Blogs have been around for a while, so people know how they work. In addition, everything is on one page, so there is no confusion with site maps and complicated navigation.

As for content management, it’s really taken care of for you. Most blog software packages and sites have really simple processes and tools that you can use to archive your content, and create links to it, so there’s no need for complicated CMS software or other hassles. Just upload and that’s it!

While a standalone may not be right for your business, it can certainly help make your site more search engine friendly, and, since it’s so easy to do, you can set one up yourself at no cost, and link to your site! So get out there and get blogging!
